HELLS HEADBANGERS is proud to present the classic debut album of the UK’s DESECRATION, Gore & Perversion, on vinyl for the first time ever.

Hailing from Wales, DESECRATION have been flying the flag for foul, all-caps DEATH METAL for over 30 years now. Of their prolific back catalog, it’s perhaps their debut album, Gore & Perversion, that’s the most pivotal. Originally released in 1996, Gore & Perversion was aptly titled – and soon found itself in the center of controversy, as the band were taken to court for “attempting to publish obscene material.” Besides the already-offensive lyrics, its cover art was immediately banned, and you had to write the label to obtain it. Even after all that, the album’s original CD pressing on Arctic Serenades is widely regarded as one of the rarest death metal albums ever.

Controversy aside, DESECRATION’s Gore & Perversion is a gross & gritty snapshot of mid ‘90s death metal, done with total conviction and pure underground fervor. Songwriting moves restlessly, from primitive, catch-up-if-you can blast to gooey, gutter-drenched breakdown and back again. The production is raw but powerful, with the guitar tone alone exhibiting a scuzziness that can kill posers on contact. The vocals of founding guitarist Ollie Jones, back then, plumb the depths of the sewer but not without a bit of articulation. At times dizzying in its angular attack but always fucking crushing the listener underneath, the albumsounds as fresh today as it did back during its (controversial) original release. No solos, no melody, no light, no hope – just Gore & Perversion!

Longtime fans, HELLS HEADBANGERS have actually worked with DESECRATION in the ancient past – their vinyl edition of Murder in Mind in 2004 was one of the label’s first LP releases – and now they keep the past alive with a totally uncensored version of Gore & Perversion, on vinyl for the first time ever in both black, colored, and picture-disc variants. Don’t be a canoe and miss out on this!
